In other sections of this website we have focused in on buying property purely for investment purposes, property that the investor has no intention of keeping possession of, let alone living in. However there is another category of buyer who, in contrast, is interested in buying a property to keep. Such individuals will range from those who intend to only use the property themselves, perhaps as retirees, or just second home owners, and those who intend to derive a rental income from it as well. By investing in a resale (i.e. second-hand) property it is possible to secure a property in an existing development with an established rental potential, capable of generating an investment return of some 5-10% p.a. As in all property investment, the true return is realised by the long-term capital growth experienced, which has recently exceeded 15-20% p.a. on the Costa del Sol .
