The UK property market has grown at a phenomenal rate over the past few years – driven principally by the ready availability of ‘buy-to-let’ funding. As this latter activity loses its shine the entire UK market has become vulnerable to a fall.

The overseas property market, in contrast, is being fuelled by a genuine demand for properties in areas offering a better lifestyle, and this demand shows no sign of decreasing. In particular it is estimated that over 6 million Britons alone will be buying property in Spain during the next 5 years.

The attractions of Spain are immediately obvious – excellent weather, good food and wine, not to mention a much more relaxed lifestyle – and it is no accident that Spain has led the property price growth table for the past two years. In focusing our current buying efforts on Spain , and in particular Andalucia and the Costa del Sol, we are merely recognising and responding to this trend.

However we also need to recognise that markets evolve, and our sights are already set on the emerging markets, such as Croatia, Bulgaria and South Africa, in which it may well be that the most profitable opportunities will be seen in the future.
